Mercedes-Benz Active Safety System Technologies
Mercedes-Benz is always thinking ahead when it comes to the safety features in its vehicles. Advanced safety has been a core component of how Mercedes-Benz vehicles are engineered. Particularly in safety, Mercedes-Benz is always looking to make strides into the future of technology. Taking part in the construction of partially-autonomous active safety features, the Mercedes-Benz active safety system technologies can help you to drive safely and keep you more alert on the road.
Active Blind Spot Assist
This technology employs a radar system that monitors the area around your vehicle and can warn you if it detects vehicles in your car’s blind spots. If you begin to change lanes and a car is in your blindspot, the system can actively intervene in order to keep you from a collision. The system will apply the brakes in the attempt to bring you safely back into your own lane. A red triangle on the side view mirrors will be displayed if the system detects cars in your blind spots.
Active Lane Keeping Assist
This system helps you to stay in your own lane. This works with a camera on the front windshield that continuously monitors the road ahead. If the system detects that the vehicle is drifting out of the recognized lane, it can warn you by vibrating the steering wheel, and then, if necessary, it can apply braking power to help bring you safely back to your lane.
Brake Assist Plus
This brake assist system helps the driver to enhance the braking force when there is a risk of a forward collision. It makes sure that the optimal braking power is applied so that accidents can be prevented, or accident severity can be reduced. It works with a radar system and camera in the front windshield to detect other cars or pedestrians in front of the vehicle, intervening if necessary.
Pre-Safe with Pedestrian Recognition
This system is combined with the Brake Assist Plus to help in the detection of pedestrians. It combines a stereo camera and a system of long, medium, and short range radars to monitor the area in front of your vehicle. The information is sent to a computer that calculates if there is a risk of a collision and assists to avoid it. Autonomous braking may take place if the driver does not respond to the warnings the system emits.
Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive System
The combination of the advanced active safety technologies above is called the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Drive system.
